COUCH SURFING SURFERS

Have you ever used couch surfing before? How did you get over nervousness?
This may be an unorthodox thread but I’m kinda like trying to reach out to veteran couch surfers here.
So I’m kinda nervous since this will be my first time using this couch surfing method. I’m also going to Rio which, no offense, is known for high crime rate and I’m staying with someone that I don’t know and I don’t have any friends that know him.
How do you guys get over this nervousness when you CS? Any advice for a nervous first time CS’er?
