Surfboard glassers : what are your tried-and-tested best alternatives to fiberglass cloth?

what fabrics have you tried that work as well as fiberglass cloth for glassing with epoxy resin? what properties impressed you most that made you choose them over other options?

There are none. It is the way the either PE resin or epoxy resin bonds with the glass cloth that creates the strength. It isn’t the fact that the fiberglass cloth is a CLOTH, it is the fact that it is FIBER GLASS, that makes it work.The glass cloth actually ‘melts’ (I know that’s not the right word, but that’s as close as I can come). It is not like the unbonded glass that provided strength in some boat construction techniques. I guess a chemist could find you a good alternative, but most of us surf folks aren’t quite that sophisticated. There are alternative construction boards out there, carbon fiber for example. But, they are a whole different form a technology, and don’t mix in with traditional board glassing techniques.
